City Outraged over Cincinnati Harold, Cincinnati Herald Similarities |
|

CINCINNATI - Dozens of residents held a protest at Fountain Square on Sunday over the similarities between The Cincinnati Harold and The Cincinnati Herald.
"I'm outraged!" exclaimed Leigh Cavanaugh, an Urban Studies major at the University of Cincinnati (UC). Leigh assembled with other students from UC's Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) college, while holding a sign that read "HAROLD GO HOME!"
"The Cincinnati Harold has confused readers of The Cincinnati Herald by creating a parody news site that is spelled only slightly differently than an actual news site."
When asked to explain why longtime readers of The Cincinnati Herald would be confused by the difference between "Herald" and "Harold," two words which have two vastly different meanings and make up the title of publications that have vastly different content, Cavanaugh shouted "Oh come on! You know as well as I do that readers of the Herald don't know how to spell!"
Cavanaugh then looked around her, swallowed so deeply that she made an "Ulp" sound, and was then beaten to death by her DAAP colleagues.
Also on the scene of the protest was Mark Shipley, a 59-year-old dentist and life-long resident of Cheviot.
"I'm outraged!" bellowed Shipley. "The Cincinnati Herald has been in print since 1952? I've never even heard of it! How come nobody ever told me about it or handed me a free copy in the 53 years it's been in publication! What, am I not good enough for the Herald?!"
When Eric H. Kearney, publisher of The Cincinnati Herald, was contacted for his opinion on the protest, he had this to say:
"I'm outraged! The Harold has been online for less than 2 months and already they've had a write-up in The Cincinnati Enquirer and an interview on AM radio? We've been at this thing for half a century and haven't even had a press release! Where's my publicist?" |
