CINCINNATI - Convergys Corporation delivered this week on their promise to Cincinnati's city council to help create new jobs (in India). The company announced a $1.1 billion dollar deal with DuPont Corporation that would provide (outsource) human resource services around the world (around the world).
The deal allows DuPont to focus on its core agricultural, chemical, and health care business units (and pawn off its costly human resources department).
Convergys will provide DuPont with human resources transaction services such as compensation management (reduced benefits), benefits administration (from India), and employee and labor relations (a toll free number that connects employees to a recorded message).
When asked if the deal would increase jobs in the Cincinnati area to help fulfill Convergys' contract with the city, Steve Rolls, executive vice president of employee care, sounded confident (avoided the question).
"It's too soon to tell how many jobs will be added in Cincinnati (but this year we've added at least 6,000 overseas)," Rolls said.
"(Labor sure is cheap in 3rd world countries that don't have many benefits)," Rolls said.
Convergys employs 1,500 employees (each fearful of being replaced by an Indian counterpart named Rajneesh) in downtown Cincinnati.
