Halloween Wrap Up: Evil 5, Good 2
By David Akadjian | Dealer staff writer    Wed, Nov 2, 2005

NEWPORT - Barnyard Burlesque returned to the Southgate House Saturday for a special Halloween show that focused on the epic moral battle that rages within all of us.

"Our costumes are based on themes of Good versus Evil," said BB founder and costume-maker Stacey Vest.

Keeping with the theme, BB dancers donned angel and devil costumes to square off in a metaphysical catfight. Devils tore at wings and angels grabbed at pitchforks until ultimately little remained of their differences.

The Newport crowd, tired of stadium-seat multiplexes, applauded this re-enactment from the Sin City days. A battle like this hadn't been seen since the mob tried to get rid of George Ratterman when he ran for Newport mayor in 1961.

The angel girls opened with a beatific song and dance. The burlesque devil girls countered with shrieks and caterwauling. Clothes flew everywhere.

Some claimed that the forces of Good waited a little too long that night for God's timely intervention. But God never showed and it was whispered that the angels must have forgotten that He helps those who help themselves. Skullduggery and superior clothes-ripping ability ruled the day and the angels succumbed.

Final score: Evil 5, Good 2.
