NEWPORT, KY - Hoping to beat the odds in Wednesday night's Powerball lottery drawing with a record jackpot of $340 million, former Reds player/manager Pete Rose bought over 146 million lottery tickets at a Newport BP station on Monday night. Although he didn't have much money in savings, Rose took out a $150 million loan Monday morning, using his stake in the Cincinnati Reds as collateral.
Rose said he had looked up the chances of winning the Powerball on that "Wiskipedier" website, where it claims that the odds of matching all 6 numbers correctly are 1 in 146,107,962. "So that's exactly how many tickets I bought," said Rose.
While Rose has guaranteed a $194 million profit for himself, he's not about to rest on his laurels. He's planning on another sure win.
"I'm looking to go double or nothin'," said Rose, "Just wonderin'.. how much money d'ya suppose it'd take to turn dem White Sox black?"
